His kind of love is sacrificial, deep, caring more about giving than getting. We have cheapened the word to mean something much less. The 1 Corinthians 13 kind of love (agape) is much more like the words in "O the deep, Deep Love of Jesus":
O the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love,
Leading onward, leading homeward to my glorious rest above.
The author of this dear hymn, Samuel Trevor Francis, was in despair as he crossed a bridge in London and in his loneliness considered putting an end to his misery. Suddenly, he said, a question came to him "do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ" and he then put his whole trust in Him. He went on to write numerous other hymns.
The deep, deep love of Jesus is not altered by the circumstances of our lives...He loves you, He has always loved you and His love has a lot to do with every part of our lives. This kind of love is available to all...because His love is available to all. Trust Him today.
